Which Cast Net is best for you?
fishing nets

When selecting a cast net, you must ask yourself some important questions in order to pick the right net for your intended use.

  1. What size baitfish are you pursuing?
The size of your bait directly relates to the mesh size you need on your net.

  2. Where are you going to be using your cast net?
The type of water environment you will be using your net in and its depth should play a part in helping you determine your best cast net weight.

  3. How much bait do you intend to catch and how fast do you want to catch it?
This question will determine which radius size is best for you. Remember that larger radius nets (8 to 14 ft.) will allow you to catch more bait in less time, but they also require a better throwing technique than smaller nets.

Additionally, more time should be allowed to extract your catch from the larger nets. The best all around choice for most anglers is the smaller radius cast net (3 to 7 ft.). You will still catch good quantities of bait and have the good fortune of spending less time extracting your catch.

While on the subject of radius size, please remember to check your state game and fish regulations before deciding on any particular net. Now we will break down the above information into a chart that will help you in your pursuit of fresh live bait.

Comparisons: Catch the Super Spreader Difference

Super Spread vs. Potential Spread

As you can see, the Super Spreader 7’ Pro Series cast net is correctly designed to generate its actual maximum spread potential, unlike the 7’ similar grade net of a leading competitor.

The exclusive FITEC design process used to create this difference correctly balances the net panels with the proper length of the leadline, thus allowing you to catch more bait.

Bait vs. Escape

What purpose does a cast net serve if it doesn’t have a tight bottom seal? Without the seal, your bait will escape.

This is why FITEC uses a dual combination leadline of polyethylene and polypropylene, which provides your net with more strength and an absolute flatter lay down. In essence, a Super Spreader leadline is your lasso for bait. When polyethylene or polypropylene is used alone in a leadline, a wave line is the cause, and bait escape is the effect. So with the Super Spreader’s tight bottom seal, you are guaranteed to trap more bait.

Caring for your Cast Net

  1. Prior to using your net, let it soak overnight in a solution of freshwater and fabric softener. This will soften and lubricate the monofilament netting and braille lines, and it will relax the netting from tight packing.

  2. Inspect your net before every use, mending any cuts or tears.

  3. Rinse your net with freshwater and hang until the leadline is completely dry. Do not use any chemicals to clean your net.

  4. Never hang your net with the leadline off the ground. This will tighten the knots and will remove the "broken-in" feel.

  5. Store your net in a cool, dry environment. Never expose it to the sun for extended periods because sunlight is harmful to the monofilament.

  6. Using your net in areas of reefs, rocks, or other submerged objects could lessen the life of your net. Avoid these areas if possible.

Glossary
fishing nets

Throwline/Handline: This throwline is made with braided high-floating, non-water absorbing polyethylene for less drag when throwing and retrieving your net. Extra length also allows for various uses: on boats, piers, tailraces, deep-water shrimping, etc.

Handloop: Specially designed handloop is constructed with super tight braiding that will never work its way loose; it also allows a chaff-free surface against your wrist.

Swivel: Each net has a high quality, brass nickel plated crane swivel that provides durability and smooth operation.

Crimp Lock: The brass crimp lock over the braille line wrap provides a never-fail securing to the swivel.

Spacer: This spacer is a high impact composite braille line divider; it keeps braille lines tangle-free for smooth operation.

Braille/Turk Lines: Ours are high lb test, quality monofilament braille lines that provide more durability and extra strength; these are also called turk lines.

Horn/Thimble: A high-impact composite gathering ring that has netting wrapped, tied, and super-glued to it, providing your net with extra durability and superior operation.

Selvage: Double selvage net construction at the horn and leadline give nets twice the strength and durability of single selvage nets.

Netting: Only the highest quality netting is used in constructing Super Spreader cast nets. Our monofilament nets are made with a special Japanese resin that provides a stronger and softer mesh; this allows you to handle the net easier and get better performance out of your net. Additionally, we pre-stretch all of our nylon and monofilament net materials so your net will open and spread to its maximum diameter. Fitec’s exclusively designed bullseye and panel patterns allow nets to open faster, lay flatter, throw easier, and perform better than any other brand on the market.

Leadline: Fitec uses a special dual leadline consisting of an innercase of twisted polyethylene and an outer sheath of tightly braided polypropylene. This design provides your net with super high strength, just the right flexibility, and extreme durability. You also get a non-kink performance.

Assembly Line: In order to provide maximum strength between the netting and the leadline, Super Spreaders have a special pre-stretched, twisted nylon cord wrapped three times around the leadline. Also, the technique we use in assembly keeps the leadline extra snug against the netting, which reduces net to leadline separation.

Weight: Fitec uses a true weight measure based on actual lead weight used per radius foot of net. That means you get the true weight of the cast net in lead weight, plus the additional weight of the components. Unlike the competition who measures the weight of everything together (lead weight + components = total weight), the true weight measure provides you with a net that will sink faster than any other. For example, our #10250 Pro Series net weighs 5 lbs 13 oz. That is 5 lbs of lead weight and 13 oz of netting components.
